What are some appropriate Christmas plays for church?

I'm supposed to put on a Christmas play for my church community, and I don't have any ideas.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My favorite Christmas story is " A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. It has all the ingredients for an enjoyable play, a villain who comes good, a poor family who end up having a splendid Christmas, ghosts, Victorian atmosphere, the lot.

The link below is to a lovely website which has the complete story there in full, to read. If you have never done so, do read it, it is wonderful, if you haven't read it since you were a child, reread it.

This is Charles Dickens own comment about it:

"I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it.

Their faithful Friend and Servant,
C. D.
December, 1843"

Now comes the really good bit, I have found a website, 2nd and 3rd links below, which give you instructions on how to produce it as a stage play! It is in two acts, so I think this may lend itself to your venue.

I hope this helps, good luck!

If you are putting this on for your church they will probably be looking for a drama that tells about Jesus or something to do with Christianity. You can always do the traditional manger scene play, but there are a lot of other options available. This particular site has many choices to choose from and your cast would not even need to learn any lines if you use one of the dramas that is narrated.

My favorite of this site is the drama ‘Redemption in the Wings’. This particular play not only has the traditional manger scene, but it also encompasses homelessness, salvation, forgiveness and reconciliation between father and daughter. I would definitely recommend this play for any church that was putting on a production for the first time because there are no speaking parts. That gives the actors a chance to get used to acting, without the added burden of learning lines. http://www.christianskitscripts.com
