I use coupons and shop sales most often for items I keep on hand and use up - like toothpaste, deoderant, razors, shampoo, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent. I also keep a price list for groceries and personal care items and cleaning products so I can tell when something is a good price. Since I buy "natural" cleaning products and personal care items (I'm severely sensitive to many chemicals), I will keep an eye on the company's web sites, check weekly/monthly sales at the co-op, to look for coupons or deals. I'm not going to find a coupon for Restore laundry detergent in the paper.
I have a coupon card for the local auto repair shop that I purchased. It gives me free oil changes and discounts on services. My car is old, and when I bought it, I needed 3 of the services from the card immediately (which were worth more than the price of the card).
I use coupons for restaurants. I've used coupons to buy windows, get my carpets cleaned, get free gift cards. I can buy discounted gift cards to buy gas through my gym's web site, as well as for Blockbuster, Costco, drugstore.com, and other places. Also, I subscribe to the mailing lists for any favorite products or stores, so I get the regular coupons. I almost never pay full-price for a book, DVD, CD, or anything that can be bought online.
My grandmother used cereal box tops to get me an entire set of towels - free - when I moved out on my own 12 years ago. They were even nice towels. I used those towels for at least 5 years and still have pieces of them used as cleaning cloths. That's probably the best coupon I've ever heard of.
For me, saving is at least partly about not being wasteful. If I make my own chicken or vegetable broth from the ends of vegetables I would otherwise throw away, I save $1.29 for every quart. It's not a coupon, but it's savings.

M$I do use coupons at some restaurants. The local pizza places often run coupon specials and I have no qualms about using those. Also, I sometimes see coupons in some of my favorite magazines that offer 20% the bill, off or half-off an entree with the purchase of another, and I use these in restaurants I'd frequent with or without a coupon.

M$I do not use coupons for services such as vets as they are not offered locally. I do not use coupons for automobile places, as I do not have an automobile at this time.

M$I guess this isn't really unusual: I wanted to clean my vacuum. It was $10 off or something like that. We then decided that $75 was too much to spend to just clean a vacuum cleaner, when $150 would buy a brand new one. So we went to look at used one, we found a 2 year old Kirby, and bought it for $200! That baby will last us many years. So the coupon itself wasn't really unusual but the situtation isn't very common.

M$The other major thing we use coupons for is anything we purchase online. We regularly use ebates to get cash back on purchases and also always look for at least a free shipping coupon when we shop for things like shoes, books or electronics. Given the high number of coupons available, it seems to us that there is always at least some coupon that will provide value.
Probably the oddest thing we have used a coupon for is for a mailbox (it’s probably also the oddest thing we’ve bought online). Like I said, there’s a coupon for just about everything…mailboxes included.

M$Fast food Delivery, such as pizza, sub sandwiches, chicken tenders, chinese food and salads. I am also in search of coupons for Gluecerna products like the glucerna bars and drinks. Other products that I use coupons for are, Charmin bulk packs equivalent to 48 rolls, Viva paper towels, Arm and Hammer laundry detergent, Dawn dish detergent, Diabetic supplies, including glucose testing strips for my wife’s Prodigy glucose meter, lancets and alcohol prep pads. I also use coupons for clothes, bath and body works Wild Honeysuckle body wash and foaming hand soaps, Pantene shampoo for thin hair with volumizing qualities that enhance curls. With my wife having special needs for multiple health conditions, I try to find as many helpful money saving coupons as I possibly can find. The most odd coupon that I have used is one for Alligator meat.
